The scimitar-horned oryx once
ranged over much of Africa's semi-arid grassland and scrub on the northern
and southern fringes of the Saharan Desert. This is the second most common
antelope in captivity and Texas ranches carry the largest global population.

The Mimosa Farm 'herd' consists of three animals (pictured) that arrived in June of 2001. Initially shy and favoring the woodlands, they now tend to dominate the open grasslands and seem to enjoy chasing the Blackbuck. |
